My short film, Foundation, has just finished its festival run, screening in festivals across the country as well as in Europe and Australia. Foundation is currently being distributed by Discover.film, the biggest short film distributor in the world providing entertainment around the world. In addition to being distributed online, Foundation can also be found on Greyhounds across the country and airlines such as British Airways, American Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic to name a few. We are really excited to have to opportunity to share this film with such a wide audience.

Foundation is the story of an up-and-coming drag performer, Kasha La Bouche, who wants more than anything to be taken under the mentorship of the famous drag mother, Aphrodite. She finally gets her chance to prove herself when Aphrodite enters the club. Desperately wanting to be a part of a drag family, Kasha tries to slay this performance. But what she forgets is that she doesn’t need to look too far to find a community of her own amongst her fellow performers.

As an LGBT filmmaker, I find that telling genuine human stories within the gay community is integral to the progression of normalizing LGBT storytelling in entertainment. My goal is to create stories that feature gay characters but not be focused on their sexuality. I believe as a society, we have moved past the simple ‘acceptance’ storylines and are ready to tell more dynamic LGBT narratives. If we want to normalize LGBT characters, we have to treat them as normal characters. My mission with this film is to create a story that features gay characters but not have a story based around their sexuality.

When I first began the process of creating Foundation, I never imagined it would become the film that I am the proudest of to date.
